Vittoba is from North India and after visiting various pilgrim centres in India, he settled down in Polur, near Tiruvannamalai.
He knew only Hindi and he was talking to others in Hindi, which people understood, somehow.People in and around Tiruvannamalai and Polur knew his greatness and were feeding him whenever there was an opportunity. He behaved like a normal person and had no eccentricities like Seshadri Swami. He was constantly in Samadhi.
Akhilandamma (Desuramma) used to feed him occasionally. Many times, he had refused the food and even spit it out.He used to live near a foul smelling drainage. Once a village accountant was driving to drive him away with a stick and as the accountant rose his hand, he became paralyzed. He prostrated before him and sought forgiveness.
Vittoba once spat every bit mango fruit that was offered to him but when Akhilandamma went to him, a little later, with hot rice and rasam, he took it fully and even asked for more.
Once when he was meditating on a river bed, flash floods came suddenly and he was drowned. After several days, when the floods dried up, he was found sitting in the same place, still in samadhi without any injury.
When Vittoba got liberated, Seshadri Swami looked at the sky and then exclaimed: "Look! Vittoba is going to Heavens!"
Some information about Vittoba Swami is available in the Tamil book Sri Arunachala Mahimai, by Bharanidharan.
